Opera 2 – Sand delivery day

I think I could kill the designer! 4 tonnes of sand! Anyway it was a challenge due to the whole having to load, and yes I can say it without exaggerating, tonnes of sand onto the stage in 15 mins! This shall be hell on my asthma, but in a weird was it will be kind of cool! If only I wasn’t the one cleaning it up! Think today went well, sand was delivered and 1/2 a tonne has been loaded ready to test! Covered all the black flats with white material as MC Hammer and Seamstress boy worked away! I was proud to find my way to fyle & Mc sumthings without getting lost, yay! Today was fun but now I am shattered and by the end of this I might actually have muscles from all of this!

Microteach Thing

It was a very interesting the class. I liked the idea that you incorporated lots of different media, it made the class more interesting and enjoyable. I didn’t feel like I was about to fall asleep which can happen it you just get bored or if someone is droning on and on. I don’t feel I need to comment on the actual content of lesson since we had a weeks intensive class that covered it in more detail. It was a good idea to label the mini stage. I kept forgetting what was SR and SL for some reason. It came in handy when doing the blocking! The only fault was that you were nervous. Yay! Well done!

I think it was a worthwhile project as I learnt a lot. However, it was very badly timed, since this was our last project I felt it was sometimes put behind the other projects as they were due first. Instead it should have been put forward more often as I think it was by far the biggest project of them all. Not just that, we were given dedicated time for our other projects however this project we were not or there were things booked in our time for working on the project. I think the group was a bit big as I felt that during meetings it was the same people talking all the time and they would not often let others speak even though they had valid points. Once we had got into it more the project was really fun. i loved making the video and I would do it all again. The ideas we came up with were great I think we just needed a little more time to tweek them. Overall great experience!

SM Class 4

I am not really using inventive titles for this am I?

Last blog about SM classes from the performing monkey!!

Today was lots of fun, would kinda be scary working the DSM board for real but hey maybe I will at some point, that would be a laugh! What would happen if you messed up the cues big time? Like beyond fixing during the show!

I am almost getting score but I still think I would still need a good few lessons to really understand and get it, so I would be able to actually follow a piece I hadn’t heard more than once. I am an awful lot better though compared to what I was like.

Overall, I had an awesome week. I think I have mention the things I would change and defo get a projector for the score next year.

They were good fun – doing the game and all?

I still don’t really get the point of the games but I had lots of fun even if it didn’t work well. Good idea for the whole communication and problem solving, as we did a lot of that. We spent a lot of time on that but it went really fast, it just means that we don’t have lots of time to work with out blocking and our cues.

Liked the idea of splitting us into groups. I like implementing what I have learnt this week plus stage management is lots of fun. I would like to make a big comment about the computers in the student production office. They are rubbish, it took like half an hour to load up and then the printer wouldn’t print anything for us!!! We spent over an hour in their.

However, the week has generally been going really well!

Once again the score reading classes were fabby, I am actually starting to understand it more and more. Great thing to have and I really do think I will need at least this weeks’ lessons to get the hangish of reading score.

Thought the marking up was good. I learnt easy ways to do it and getting the right scale. Good to know that you use red Lx tape for the centre line and DS line and how you mark it. eg, short – long – short – long.

I think that we spent just the right amount of time on everything as nothing seemed really to drag out.

Don’t use that small board for writing on – I couldn’t read it. I had to put my glasses on

The classes were good. I think the wilderness survival questionnaire was a really good idea, as even though the subject matter was off, it had relevance to stage management. It answered good questions and made me more aware, for example, my time awareness. We didn’t time it as we had forgotten it was only 30Min’s and we just got really focused on answering and proving our points from the questionnaire.

Big thing – Thank god for the score reading classes. I have never played a musical instrument never mind looking at score. It was really useful and towards the end of the class I was kind of starting to get the concept of it.

I kind of knew how to set up a props table already but it was interesting to see how everyone else did it and a learnt more about easier ways to do it – so that was really useful.

What I thought was good was what to say when you are proping on the phone. However I didn’t really like having to do it in-front of everyone, in a real life situation you wouldn’t have and audience staring at you while you were on the phone. If you maybe split into 2′s and practiced doing it – I think that would be better.

Overall I enjoyed the classes despite being really tired after getting no sleep after the get in at Edinburgh.
